* The photos above are of the world's larges floating crane (1950's), the YD-171 'German Crane.' During WWI I Germany built three of these large cranes. After the war the Russians, British and the U.S. acquire a crane. Russia and England tried to sail the cranes home, hit bad weather, the cranes capsized and sunk. Learning from their mistakes the Unite States dismantled shipped it over here and reassembled it at Long Beach Naval Shipyard. At the closing of Long Beach Naval Shipyard in 1997 the crane was placed on a ship and transported to Panama. *
